Protec General Insurance, a newly licensed Indian general insurer, has selected insureMO to build an AI-native insurance core as it prepares to expand across India’s retail and commercial insurance markets.
The technology platform will use an API-first, microservices-based architecture, covering key insurance functions including product configuration, rating and quotation, underwriting, policy issuance, servicing, billing, payments, claims, documentation and distribution.
The partnership is intended to help Protec launch and modify insurance products faster while connecting with distribution partners and wider insurance ecosystems at lower cost.
A key feature is the platform’s AI-ready architecture, which allows artificial intelligence capabilities to be incorporated into product configuration and other insurance processes. This could support faster product development and greater operational flexibility.
The move reflects a broader shift in insurance technology from traditional monolithic core systems towards modular platforms that can be adapted as products, customer requirements and distribution channels change.
For a new insurer, building a modern technology foundation from the outset can also reduce dependence on legacy systems. However, an AI-native core brings its own requirements around data governance, cybersecurity, model risk, system resilience and regulatory compliance.
The platform will support both retail and commercial insurance, giving Protec the technology infrastructure to serve different customer segments and risk categories.
The partnership also highlights the growing importance of APIs in insurance distribution. Open interfaces can allow insurers to connect more easily with digital platforms, intermediaries and other ecosystem participants.
For India’s insurance industry, the development demonstrates how new entrants are using technology to build scalable operations from the beginning rather than relying on traditional infrastructure.
As insurers increasingly adopt AI and automation, technology architecture will become an important factor in product innovation, distribution efficiency and customer experience. At the same time, strong governance will be essential to ensure that technology-driven insurance decisions remain reliable and compliant.
The Protec-insureMO partnership therefore reflects a broader transformation in insurance technology, where AI, APIs and modular architecture are becoming central to building modern insurance operations.
