India’s health insurance sector has crossed ₹1.2 lakh crore in premiums, with the segment growing at around 9%, reflecting continued expansion in demand for health protection. The growth comes as healthcare costs rise and more individuals and households seek financial protection against hospitalisation and medical expenses.

The expansion also highlights the need for insurers to focus on affordability, product design, claims efficiency and wider coverage, particularly as India continues to work towards broader insurance inclusion. For the industry, sustained growth will depend not only on premium volumes but also on improving penetration, strengthening customer trust and developing products that address the changing healthcare and financial needs of policyholders.
