From a modest beginning of Rs.12.51 crore retail business in 2006-07, Star Health has now crossed a landmark figure of Rs.1000 crore in retail Health Insurance business. “Diabetes Safe” Insurance

Star Health Insurance has come out with yet another innovative product ‘Star Diabetes Safe’ insurance policy. Mr. T. S. Vijayan, Chairman, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority, Hyderabad addressed the gathering and this product was launched by  Mr. D. R. Kaarthikeyan, Former Director, CBI & Director, Star Health Insurance 

 

“India being the diabetic capital of the world, its only needed that a policy like this is available to cover diabetes related complications. With multiple products in the Star health Insurance shelf, we are bringing out policies custom made based on the rising needs of our customers. We were the pioneers in bringing out an insurance policy for HIV affected patients and  also Cardiac cover. This product is designed to cover Diabetes and its complications irrespective of the number of years the person may have been living with it.” said Mr. V. Jagannathan Chairman and Managing Director, Star Health and Allied Insurance Company Ltd.

 

A special feature of this product is that a person living with diabetes for any number of years can take an insurance policy withpre insurance medical tests being optional.

 

This ‘Star Diabetes Safe’ policy covers all the complications of Type I and Type II Diabetes along with regular health cover.  It includes all complications arising out of Diabetes including heart related, unlike the previous policy which covered only three complications of Diabetes (Eye, Kidney and Foot Ulcer).

 

Diabetes is known to cause multiple micro-vascular and macro-vascular complications, all of which are covered in this policy. When the insured requires a kidney transplantation, the expenses related to donor surgery is also covered.

 

The entry age for the policy is 18 yrs to 65 yrs, but renewal is allowed lifelong. The policy is available on Individual Basis as well as on Family Floater Basis (for Self & Spouse only if both are diabetic) with no exit age.

 

 

The sum insured options range from Rs. 3lakh to Rs.10 lakh with  optional  pre-acceptance medical test. If the medical test is opted by the customer, then the expenses are fully borne by STAR.An automatic 100% restoration (on individual policies only) of basic sum insured is available in  the individual plan of this policy. If there is a diabetic requiring amputation, this policy covers the cost of the artificial limbs also. The policy covers more than 400 procedures under day care.
