Gone are the days when health insurance policy holders have to wait for their hospitals to get a claim authorization from the insurance company. Health insurance companies have come up with card based instant cashless claim authorization that will enable hospitals on swiping a payment card for approval of health claims.
L&T General Insurance has already launched the facility by partnering with E-meditek global which provides the technology and Visa prepaid card issued by Ratnakar Bank which will facilitate funds transfer to the hospital.
“The telegram has been phased out and fax transmissions are also now becoming outdated. But insurance companies still depend on the fax to convey the authorization to hospitals. The instant authorization card will change all that,” said Joydeep Roy, CEO & Wholetime Director, L&T Insurance.
At the outset, the company would offer this product to corporate clients with group mediclaim policies as it would be easier to manage. L&T General is keen to extend this to individual clients as well. Currently it takes over 4 hours for L&T General’s corporate group health customers to receive the cashless approval after entering the hospital.
