Mrs.  Alamelu T. Lakshmanachari, the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Agriculture Insurance has been appointed as whole Time Member (Non-Life) by The Appointment Committee of Cabinet (ACC) for a period of 03 or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

A direct recruit officer of 1983 batch, Mrs.  Alamelu started her career with The New India Assurance Co. Ltd. During her distinguished career, she held several important positions at all levels of operation and discharged her duty with élan and great poise.

On her promotion, she joined United India Insurance Co. Ltd as Deputy General Manager in August 2008 and subsequently got promoted to General Manager Cadre in October 2012. In October 2016, she returned to her parent company -The New India Assurance Company Limited as Director & General Manager, one amongst the youngest Directors and General Managers in the Public Sector General Insurance Companies in India.

Mrs. Alamelu has extensive and varied knowledge across an entire gamut of general insurance domains. She has worked in providing specialized Insurance covers such as ISRO’s Satellite, launch and ONGC’s offshore assets, and has also handled Property, Casualty, Motor, Marine, Health and Aviation Insurance besides handling Reinsurance.

She was rewarded for her technical and strategic exploits when she was made the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited. She incidentally is the first woman CMD of the Company.

She has served as a Council Member of the Insurance institute of India, Mumbai. As a brilliant visiting faculty member, she excelled in her delivery and would often engage a whole day session in complex subjects like Liability insurance at National Insurance Academy, Pune for senior professionals.

Her passion for sharing knowledge ensures value creation down the line. She is also well- known for articulating her views in various panel discussions, symposiums, conferences and other insurance fora.

She featured as one of the 100 Influential Women in Re/Insurance by ‘Intelligent Insurer’ in 2015. In her leisure, Mrs. Alamelu loves reading, music and travelling.
