The government has notified appointment of S B Mathur, former chairman of Life Insurance Corporation, as a part-time member of the  Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority.
Mathur has been appointed in place of Ela Bhatt whose term came to an end last month. Besides being chairman of LIC, Mathur was until  recently chief of the Life Insurance Council, an association of the industry. His appointment is seen as a move to get industry  representation on board.The other part-time members of IRDA include the joint secretary insurance from the ministry of finance and the president of ICAI.
