State Congress chief Saifuddin Soz said Congress was committed to its assurance of providing honorarium and insurance cover to more than 33,000 panchs and sarpanchs of the State. 

Addressing a gathering of panchs, sarpanchs and party workers at Rakhi Brah Shangas in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, Soz told the gathering that they should individually and collectively become an effective instrument for promotion of Congress and also serve the people at large.

He assured the gathering that Congress was steadfast on its assurance to the sarpanchs and panchs of the State that it will secure honrarium and insurance cover for them. Soz said that the Congress’ basic commitment was that Panchayati Raj institutions had to be empowered.

“Democracy has to be further strengthened at the grass root level and common people have to participate in the developmental process,” he said. Soz said the coalition government would follow this line of policy at all the levels in the system.

Soz congratulated the people of Shangas through their leaders present in the gathering for their support to the Congress party and the leader of the constituency Gulzar Ahmad Wani.

MLA Dooru G A Mir, State Congress senior vice president Muhammad Muzaffar Parray, MLC Ghulam Nabi Monga, Vice Presidents Abdul Majid Padder and Gulzar Ahmad Wani, District President Anantnag Chaudhary Abdul Hamid, Ali Muhammad Mantoo, Gulam Mohiuddin Bhat and others accompanied Soz and spoke at the public gathering.

Ghulam Nabi Monga thanked sarpanchs and panchs for their overwhelming support to him as Congress candidate. On his return from Shangas, Soz visited Kehribal Anantnag where he was received by District General Secretary Anantnag Hilal Shah.

Soz appreciated Shah for his efforts and thanked the gathering for waiting for five hours for his arrival and addressed a gathering of people at Kehribal Anantnag.

On the occasion, Soz said Government of India had sanctioned funds under NRWDP for drinking water supply scheme at Kehribal through the efforts of the Congress. He also announced that a Public Health Centre would be set up at Kehribal.

Soz also announced that he would take personal interest in providing a playfield and fruit mandi at this place and told the people that they should identify the land as early as possible.

On the occasion G A Mir, Muhammad Muzaffar Parray, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Abdul Majid Padder and others congratulated Hilal Shah for organizing such a meeting.
