An insurance company based in DLF Phase-II has filed a complaint against an insurance agent alleging that he was involved in a fraud worth lakhs of rupees. Following a preliminary investigation, police have registered an FIR against the agent.
Kishley Catgey, an officer at the DLF Phase-II branch of the Birla Sun Life Insurance, had complained to commissioner K K Sandhu saying that Raman, a resident of Madanpuri Colony, who was an agent with the company, had duped them. According to the complainant, Raman had insured a person named Pradeep in January 2012 and the person had handed him a draft of Rs 9,94,000. However, instead of depositing the draft in the company account, Raman allegedly deposited the money in the account of a person called Riya Sen.
The anomaly was brought forth in the internal assessment, and a preliminary enquiry by the company revealed that Riya is Raman’s wife.
Despite repeated questioning, Raman allegedly failed to give a satisfactory reply, which prompted the company to file a police case. The commissioner of police ordered an enquiry into the matter, following which a case was registered.
“An FIR of fraud has been lodged against Raman and we are investigating,” said inspector Jagdish Prashad, SHO, DLF Phase-II.
