In a shocking incident, a 27-year-old man in Mysuru, identified as Pandu, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his father, Annappa, to claim insurance benefits. The incident occurred in Periyapatna, where Pandu worked at a scrapyard. His attempt to stage the murder as a road accident was thwarted by a swift police investigation.
Pandu reportedly attacked his 60-year-old father at their residence in Gerasi colony near Koppa, Periyapatna taluk. Using a club, he struck Annappa from behind on Wednesday evening, killing him instantly. To cover up the crime, Pandu transported his father’s body and abandoned it by the roadside, hoping to pass it off as a road accident.
Initially, the case was registered as a road accident by the Bylakuppa police. However, discrepancies in the medical examination findings raised suspicions, prompting a deeper investigation. Upon questioning, Pandu confessed to the crime and detailed how he planned to benefit from his father’s insurance policy.
According to the police, Annappa owned a utensils shop and was living with his daughter and two sons. Pandu, the youngest of the children, intended to claim his father’s Rs 30 lakh insurance policy. The policy also included a provision for double compensation in the case of accidental death, which Pandu sought to exploit.
Pandu’s confession revealed the premeditated nature of the crime, as he admitted to staging the accident to make it appear legitimate. The police have since registered a murder case against him, and he remains in custody.
The tragic incident has left the local community in shock, highlighting the extreme measures some individuals might resort to for financial gain. Police continue to investigate the case to ensure justice is served.
