Haryana government has decided to provide health cover to the workers injured as a result of an accident during employment under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
Also, the family of the worker would be entitled to full cost of hospitalisation and treatment and ex-gratia in the unfortunate event of his death after hospitalisation as a result of the accident, a spokesperson of development and panchayat department said.
He said such workers would be given free medical facilities and they would be entitled to daily allowance at the rate of half of their wage per day. The workers would be provided free treatment in government hospitals.
He said Haryana government had also decided to make the payment of wages under MGNREGA through smart cards so as to ensure transparency in payment system. In addition, photography of works carried out under the scheme had also been done and 30 new works had also been included in MGNREGA as per fresh norms.
A sum of Rs 969.04 crore had been incurred so far during last seven and half years in the state under MGNREGA.
The spokesman said the government would provide 128.75 lakh mandays under MGNREGA during current financial year. The budgetary provision of Rs 433.89 crore has been made for this purpose. He said that so far 100 per cent employment had been provided to the families under the scheme. He said Haryana had been providing the highest rate of wages of Rs 191 per day under MGNREGA.
