Visva-Bharati in collaboration with the National Insurance Company Limited has introduced a medical insurance scheme that will provide coverage of up to Rs 50,000 to students aged between three and 25 years.
The insurance scheme , called Vidyarthi Mediclaim will benefit around 5000 students – from school to post graduate level. An annual premium of Rs 580 will be included in the fees.
“Each student will also get up to Rs 3 lakh if his or her legal guardian dies or becomes disabled,” said Sabujkali Sen, the chairman of the varsity’s media interface committee.
If any student dies on the Visva-Bharati campus in an accident, his or her guardian will get Rs 2 lakh, an official said.
“In case of a student’s disability, the compensation will be up to Rs 2 lakh, according to the degree of disability,” the official added.
Students have already been provided with their insurance forms and most of them have undergone mandatory medical tests.
The scheme has listed hospitals and nursing homes in Calcutta and Burdwan where students can be treated. If students are admitted to any unlisted hospital, the expenses will be reimbursed.
