Hyundai Motor India has introduced a Usage-Based Insurance (UBI) programme for eligible customers with Bluelink-connected vehicles, linking insurance benefits to actual driving behaviour. The UBI score is calculated using data from the previous three months, including rapid acceleration, deceleration and braking, speed control and idling behaviour. Customers whose insurance renewal is due within the next 90 days can view their score through the Bluelink app. A score of 70 or above may qualify customers for insurance benefits, subject to the participating insurer’s underwriting rules and terms.

Hyundai India Insurance Broking will facilitate the consent-based sharing of driving scores with participating insurers, with the first phase involving Cholamandalam MS General Insurance, Go Digit General Insurance and ICICI Lombard General Insurance. Eligible customers may receive savings of up to 15% on the own-damage component of the premium in certain cases. The programme requires no additional tracking device and represents a shift towards data-driven motor insurance, where connected-car data can increasingly influence underwriting and reward safer driving. Hyundai says it already has more than 0.8 million connected cars on Indian roads and is targeting 1 million by 2027 and 2 million by 2030.
