MDRT and MDRT Foundation Donate $248,000 for Disaster Recovery in Japan

The Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) and the MDRT Foundation announce a cumulative donation of USD 248,000 from their MDRT Japan Relief Fund established following the earthquake and tsunami that devastated much of Japan on March 11, 2011. “What happened in Japan is beyond what most people can comprehend,” said MDRT President Julian H. Good, Jr., CLU, ChFC. “As the Premier Association for Financial Professionals, MDRT members are proud to provide much-needed funding to aid in the restoration of communities hardest hit by these disasters.”

The MDRT Japan Relief Fund welcomed over USD 98,000 in donations from MDRT members and industry supporters through the end of April, which contributed to the total amount of USD 248,000. USD 100,000 of the total will be given to the MDRT Foundation in Japan and the remaining funds will go to the American Red Cross for their designated Japan relief efforts, which will provide medical care, food, clothing and shelter.

In the two months following the catastrophic events, thousands of people are still missing and millions of tons of debris have laid in waiting for clean-up efforts to come. Despite assistance from around the globe, officials project complete restoration of the country could take a full decade.

“To see the destruction in Japan is heart-wrenching and to know their country has been so thoroughly impaired is saddening,” said MDRT Foundation President Robelynn H. Abadie, LUTCF, RFC. “The MDRT Foundation is humbled and thankful for the number of gracious donations made by our members and our ability to match those donations.

Our sincere hope is that these donations will help our fellow MDRT members in Japan and the thousands of others who were displaced begin clean-up and restore their outlook for brighter days ahead.”
