The Uttar Pradesh government has launched the Chief Minister’s Teachers’ Cashless Medical Scheme, offering cashless medical coverage to teachers, non-teaching employees and their families across the state.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the scheme in Varanasi. It will provide medical coverage of up to ₹5 lakh and is expected to benefit more than 15 lakh teachers and non-teaching staff associated with basic and secondary education.
The scheme covers regular teachers as well as Shiksha Mitras, instructors, cooks and eligible employees of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas. Their family members will also be able to access cashless treatment facilities under the programme.
The state government also signed a memorandum of understanding with the State Bank of India to provide social security protection to teachers and their families.
Contractual employees earning more than ₹10,000 per month will receive personal accident insurance ranging from ₹30 lakh to ₹80 lakh. The same range of benefits will apply in cases of permanent disability, while partial disability will be covered for amounts between ₹15 lakh and ₹40 lakh.
The programme also includes air accident insurance and additional benefits to support the education of employees’ children and the marriage of daughters in the event of an unforeseen tragedy.
The initiative is intended to strengthen healthcare access and financial security for education department employees while reducing the burden of major medical and accident-related expenses.
