The authorities of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) have decided to give relaxation to the policyholders affected by natural calamity in Uttarakhand.
If death of insured person was caused in the floods or landslides in Uttarakhand, no investigation would be done and payment upto Rs 10 lakh would be assured by the branch offices.
Decision on missing cases will be taken on the merit of circumstantial evidences and indemnity bond.
Relaxations would be given in the submission of death certificate issued by any government machinery. Evidences may be in the form of register of births and deaths or panchnama, Police Inquest report or postmortem Report.
Where Central/state government or any municipal authority had paid compensation or made ex-gratia payment on account of death of the insured person during flood/landslides, it will be treated as a satisfactory evidence of death for the purpose of settlement of death claims.
If double accident & disability benefits are payable and the cause of death is flood/landslide, the same will be paid without insisting on police report, hospital records, investigation etc.
If policy bond has been lost in the flood/landslides, then relaxation would be allowed.
In order to provide expeditious services to the affected policyholders, special help desks had been constituted at divisional and branch offices. A special help desk has also been constituted to view and check the work of other help desks. A special task force comprising officers of LIC had been formed. It would ebsure concessions and benefits to reach the needy policyholders.
