Insurance Ombudsman post in Kolkata lying vacant since long Insurance policyholders in the eastern region, have been suffering for last 8 months to get their grievances heard. The ombudsman post in Kolkata is lying vacant since long and due to the election code of conduct it will take few more months for appointment.

 

“Since the election has been declared, an ombudsman cannot be appointed before a new government is formed,” said an IRDA official. Manika Datta, the last ombudsman, completed her term and vacated the office in June last year.

 

The insurance ombudsman’s office in Kolkata is receiving around 60 complaints every month. The office, which looks after grievances regarding both life and non-life insurance policies, is already facing a huge backlog since September, 2012. “Although a bulk of complaints have already been resolved, still a huge number of cases has piled up,” said an official.
