Canara HSBC Life Insurance has introduced a simplified and accelerated claims settlement process for policyholders and families affected by the recent floods in Assam, reducing documentation requirements and prioritising eligible claims to provide quicker financial assistance.
The insurer announced the special claims initiative on August 4, 2026, stating that affected families would receive expedited assessment and settlement of eligible life insurance claims. The initiative includes simplified documentation, multiple channels for submitting claims and dedicated on-ground assistance in Assam.
Documentation Requirements Simplified
To facilitate faster settlement, Canara HSBC Life has relaxed certain documentation requirements. Claimants can submit any acceptable evidence of death, including a death certificate issued by municipal authorities, a list of deceased persons published by the State or Central Government, or another acceptable proof of death, depending on the circumstances.
Along with proof of death, claimants are required to provide:
- A Claimant Statement or Claim Form
- Photo identity proof of the claimant
- Proof of relationship with the life assured, wherever applicable
- Bank account details through a cancelled cheque, bank statement or NEFT mandate
These measures are intended to prevent families affected by the disaster from facing unnecessary documentation-related delays while seeking insurance benefits.
Multiple Channels for Filing Claims
Canara HSBC Life has also provided several ways for affected policyholders and beneficiaries to lodge their claims.
Claims and supporting documents may be submitted through the insurer’s designated email channels, its customer mobile application or customer-care helplines. The company has listed 1800-891-0003 and 1800-103-0003 as helpline numbers for claim-related assistance.
The insurer has additionally appointed a dedicated District Claims Service Head to assist policyholders requiring personalised or on-ground support in Assam.
Faster Claims Important After Natural Disasters
Natural catastrophes can make conventional claims documentation difficult because families may lose personal records or find it difficult to obtain certificates and other official documents immediately after a disaster.
Recognising alternative government-issued evidence of death and reducing procedural requirements can therefore help insurers settle legitimate claims more quickly while families deal with the financial consequences of a catastrophe.
Canara HSBC Life said it is prioritising both the assessment and settlement of eligible claims, with the objective of making financial assistance available to affected families at the earliest possible stage.
The initiative highlights the importance of insurers establishing catastrophe-specific claims protocols following major natural disasters. Beyond policy coverage itself, simplified documentation, accessible claims channels and local assistance can materially affect how quickly insurance protection reaches beneficiaries.
Canara HSBC Life was incorporated in 2007 and, as of June 30, 2026, operated 107 branches across India, according to information released by the company.
