Key Highlights

  • Insurance Coverage: Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), 131.3 lakh fishermen are covered by the Group Accidental Insurance Scheme (GAIS). The entire premium is borne by the Central and state governments.
  • Benefits: The scheme provides ₹5,00,000 for death or permanent total disability, ₹2,50,000 for permanent partial disability, and ₹25,000 for hospitalization expenses due to accidents.
  • Kisan Credit Card (KCC): Extended to fishers and fish farmers since 2018-19, with 4,26,666 KCCs sanctioned.
  • FIDF: Provides concessional finance for fisheries infrastructure development with a 3% interest subvention per annum and a 12-year repayment period.
  • Funding Approvals: Over the last four years, ₹19,670.56 crore has been approved for fisheries development, with ₹8,666.28 crore from the Central government.
  • Infrastructure Development: Projects include 29,964 hectares of pond area, 4013 Biofloc units, 11995 Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems, 50,710 reservoir cages, seaweed and bivalve cultivation units, artificial reef units, fishing harbors, cold storages, fish markets, and post-harvest transportation units.
