The PGDM-Insurance Business Management course, offered by BIMTECH, has received MBA equivalence from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with effect from 1st July, 2018 for a period of six years. Disclosing this, Dr Harivansh Chaturvedi, the Director of Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) expressed his great happiness, “We were pioneers in introducing insurance education at the Post Graduate level in India, way back in 2000. This course was inaugurated by the first Chairman of IRDA, Mr. N Rangachary. It was a daunting decision to start a sectorial course, that also, in insurance at that point of time. But the insurance industry had just opened up for private competition and we seized the opportunity. The course, not only sailed through the vicissitude of time, but also emerged as one of the most popular and sought after courses delivered at BIMTECH. The AICTE accredited course also got accredited by the prestigious National Board of Accreditation (NBA) recently.” Going down the memory lane, Dr Chaturvedi recounted with nostalgia.

The MBA equivalence from AIU places the PGDM diploma offered by autonomous institutions recognized by AICTE at par with the Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree of an Indian university, for the purpose of admission to higher studies. With AIU’s MBA equivalence, the students passing out can pursue PhD from any university in India and abroad.  “Our insurance course is widely recognized by many well-known international professional organizations like the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII-UK), LIMRA-LOMA , Swiss Re. We do have different kinds of collaborations with these leading institutions. Our alumni are well placed in the insurance industry and many of the senior alumni have started taking up leadership positions both at national and international levels”, quipped Dr. Abhijit K.Chattoraj, Chairperson – Programme of Insurance Business Management, with a tinge of pride.
