The Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (IRCSL) has organised an inter-university insurance quiz competition to promote insurance education and financial literacy among young people. The initiative, branded InsureChamp 2026, is intended to increase insurance awareness among undergraduates while strengthening engagement between universities, the insurance industry and the regulator. It will also provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge while developing teamwork and analytical skills and understanding the role of insurance in financial security, risk awareness and national resilience.
The competition is scheduled for 25 November 2026 at the BMICH in Colombo, with the live on-stage competition expected to run from 1 pm to 5 pm. As of October 6, 20 universities and higher-education institutions had confirmed their participation, including state universities, degree-awarding institutions recognised by the University Grants Commission and government universities and institutes established under Acts of Parliament. The initiative also reflects IRCSL’s objective of strengthening its role as a knowledge partner within the academic community.
The initiative forms part of a broader push by Sri Lanka’s insurance regulator to improve insurance and risk literacy. IRCSL has previously outlined plans to engage school and university students, government officials, businesses and the wider public through education and awareness programmes. The regulator has also proposed integrating basic concepts of risk management and financial protection into the school curriculum, while the inter-university programme is intended to help develop future insurance professionals and thought leaders.
