Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for integrating social reform with public service and governance, drawing on the example of Mahatma Gandhi. Speaking virtually to participants of a “Seva Yatra” motorcycle rally from Varanasi to Vadnagar, Modi said political workers should combine their public responsibilities with efforts to address social issues. He also emphasised that service to citizens should be demonstrated through action and highlighted initiatives recognising sanitation workers and other service-oriented contributors.
Modi also referred to improvements in rural infrastructure and said the gap between cities and villages had narrowed over the past 12 years. He highlighted increased self-reliance among women and cited sanitation efforts during the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela as an example of public service. The remarks come amid a broader government focus on governance, implementation and delivery of public programmes. Recent Council of Ministers deliberations have included governance, reforms, ease of living, reduction of compliance burdens and improving delivery mechanisms.
The emphasis on connecting governance with social outcomes places greater focus on implementation, citizen engagement and delivery of public services. Recent discussions involving ministers have also examined inter-ministerial coordination, grievance redressal and ensuring that government schemes reach intended beneficiaries within stipulated timelines.
