Zurich Kotak General Insurance has launched a digital insurance platform for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), designed to simplify the purchase and management of commercial insurance through an end-to-end digital experience.

The platform is built around Business Secure Plus, a bundled insurance proposition intended to provide SMEs with protection against multiple business risks through a single digital journey.

The offering brings together several covers, including Fire and Special Perils, Burglary and Housebreaking, Electronic Equipment, All Risk, Fidelity Guarantee, Directors and Officers Liability, Employee Compensation, Money and Machinery Breakdown, subject to the applicable policy terms and conditions.

A key feature is the integration of the insurance journey into one digital platform. SMEs can obtain quotations, purchase policies and access servicing capabilities through a single interface, reducing the need to manage multiple processes separately.

The platform also uses risk-based pricing, allowing insurance solutions to be aligned more closely with the characteristics of individual businesses. This is particularly relevant for SMEs because risks can vary considerably according to their industry, location, assets and operating activities.

The move comes as insurers increasingly focus on improving access to commercial insurance through technology. SMEs can face difficulties navigating multiple products and determining which risks require coverage. A bundled digital proposition can potentially simplify this process.

For insurers, digital platforms also provide opportunities to improve underwriting efficiency and customer engagement. Digital journeys can capture information more systematically, support faster quotations and create greater visibility into customer requirements.

However, simplification of the purchase process does not eliminate the need for effective risk assessment. Commercial risks can differ substantially between businesses, and appropriate underwriting remains essential to ensure that coverage corresponds with actual exposures.

The development also highlights the growing convergence of InsurTech, digital distribution and commercial underwriting. As insurers digitise SME insurance, technology can increasingly support both customer convenience and more data-driven risk assessment.

For SMEs, the significance lies in making business insurance easier to access and manage. For insurers, the challenge will be to combine a seamless digital experience with appropriate product suitability, underwriting discipline and claims support.

The launch reflects a broader shift in commercial insurance towards integrated digital platforms that bring multiple protection needs into a more accessible customer journey.
