HDFC ERGO General Insurance is preparing for a significant shift toward artificial intelligence–driven hyper-personalisation, with 2026 emerging as a key milestone in the insurer’s digital transformation journey, according to its Chief Technology Officer, Naganathan.
Speaking on the evolving role of technology in insurance, Naganathan said artificial intelligence is moving beyond automation to become a strategic enabler of personalised customer experiences across underwriting, claims, and engagement. He noted that AI-powered analytics will allow insurers to move away from one-size-fits-all products toward coverage that is tailored to individual risk profiles, behaviour, and life stages.
HDFC ERGO is leveraging machine learning models and advanced data platforms to analyse customer data in real time, enabling more accurate pricing, faster claims settlement, and proactive risk prevention. The company is also exploring the use of generative AI to enhance customer interactions, simplify policy communication, and improve internal decision-making processes.
According to Naganathan, the next phase of insurance innovation will focus on predictive and preventive models, where insurers can anticipate customer needs and potential risks before they materialise. This approach is expected to strengthen customer trust while improving operational efficiency and loss ratios.
However, he emphasised that responsible AI governance will remain critical, particularly around data privacy, explainability, and regulatory compliance. As AI adoption deepens, insurers must balance innovation with ethical use and robust risk controls.
With digital adoption accelerating across India’s insurance market, HDFC ERGO’s AI-led strategy reflects a broader industry shift toward technology-driven, customer-centric insurance models that aim to redefine engagement and value delivery over the next few years.
