Star Health and Allied Insurance has launched a groundbreaking initiative by introducing a health insurance policy in Braille, aimed at empowering visually impaired individuals across India. The policy will enable them to access and understand their health insurance information independently, according to the company’s official statement.

Special Care Gold Policy for People with Disabilities
The newly launched “Special Care Gold” policy is designed specifically for individuals with 40% or more disabilities, including physical, sensory, and cognitive impairments. This tailored health coverage addresses the unique needs of disabled individuals, ensuring they receive adequate health protection.

The move comes in response to a 2022 study by the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology, which estimated that vision impairment leads to an economic loss of ₹646 billion in productivity. With this policy, Star Health aims to alleviate some of the challenges faced by the disabled community by providing easy access to health insurance.

Financial Inclusivity Campaign
In addition to introducing the Braille policy, Star Health has launched a financial inclusivity campaign to support visually impaired individuals in another way: by offering them the opportunity to become health insurance agents. This initiative focuses on providing training and upskilling, allowing visually impaired individuals to work remotely and generate an income.

Supporting IRDAI’s Vision of ‘Insurance for All’
Speaking about the initiative, Anand Roy, MD & CEO of Star Health Insurance, emphasized the company’s commitment to inclusivity: “We are dedicated to making health insurance accessible to all, including the 34 million visually impaired people in India. This initiative aligns with IRDAI’s ‘Insurance for All’ vision, supporting both health coverage and financial empowerment.”

Through this initiative, Star Health is working to ensure that visually impaired individuals have the same opportunities for financial security and healthcare access as others in society.
